Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Explored

 

DAY 1: TRAVEL TO MGAHINGA GORILLA NATIONAL PARK

After early morning breakfast, head off westwards to kisoro making a stop at equator for photography and experiments. After that, proceed through Mbarara and kabaale, the Switzerland of Uganda enjoying views from beautiful, green revolving hills and numerous islands surrounded by the hills. Upon arrival in kisoro watch out fir views from the three mountains standing besides each other. Check into your hotel where you will have dinner and Spend the night.

DAY 2: GOLDEN MONKEY TRACKING AND LAKE MUTANDA

In the morning, head straight to ntebeko (Park offices) where you will be briefed and after go golden monkey trekking for 3-4hours. This venture is one unique one as you will get to walk through the three different vegetation zones in the forest to reach the bamboo zone which is home to the golden monkeys. In this journey, you will encounter many bird and butterfly species as well as elephants and buffaloes if lucky enough.
When done with that, Head off for a lunch at kisoro town and later Head off to lake mutanda canoeing on the lake enjoying spectacular views as you take pictures as well. Dinner will be had at the lake resort where you will spend the night.

DAY 3: GORILLA TREKKING IN MGAHINGA GORILLA NATIONAL PARK

Wake up very at 6:00am for early breakfast and go gorilla trekking. This activity involves a nature walk in the forest, clearing paths for you using machetes to easily access the rare mountain gorillas only found in the virunga region of Africa. While having the nature walk, prepare for a three hour hike filled with many bird and butterfly species, beautiful scenery and unique plant species and spend an hour with the primates taking pictures and learning more about them.

Later on return and have lunch and either have a relaxed evening at your hotel or visit the communities surrounding the park and learn more about their way of life, how they co-exist with the wild, farming styles, economic activities participated in and anything more they have for presentation.

DAY 4: VOLCANO HIKING AND NATURE WALK

Hike one of the three volcanoes, sabinyo which is 3,669m and takes about six hours to ascend and descend, Mt. Gahinga which is 3,474m and takes about 4 hours to ascend and descend. Third mountain is gifted with a crater lake in the top and on a lucky day one could spot golden monkeys on their way through the bamboo forest and finally Mt. Muhavura with its highest peak at 4,127m and ascending takes about 8 hours. Once on the highest peak, one can have clear views of the virunga ranges, lake Edward, Bwindi impenetrable forest and peaks of the Rwenzori mountains.
Look out for butterflies, endemic bird species, different vegetation species and golden monkeys, buffaloes and elephants.
You will have lunch at the while hiking on one of the rest houses before proceeding. Upon return, you will have dinner and rest at your hotel

DAY 5: RETURN TO KAMPALA

Return to kampala after breakfast with a stop over at the equator again if you may want to passing through the beautiful kigezi highlands and stopping at various points for photography and scenic viewing. You will still get to encounter African homesteads and farms and stop at either mbarara or masaka for lunch at choice.
