Mountain gorillas in Uganda are known to be vegetarian animals that on rare occasions enjoy the supplement from the insects. They are shy and less offensive creatures though with frightening eyes and body features. The mountain gorillas are the most powerful of all the apes and an adult gorilla can weigh up to 275kg with a height of 1.7m (6ft).
The Mountain gorilla fur is noted to be thicker and extended in length than that of other gorilla species which gives them the capacity to thrive in colder temperatures. The Mountain gorillas are distinguished by the nose prints that are distinct to every individual. The male gorillas feature an average weight of 195 kg and stretch to 150 cm in height while standing upright and they at times weigh twice that of female gorillas. The female gorillas feature a mean weight of 100 kg and stretch to 130cm in height
DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT ENTEBBE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT .
Welcome to Uganda – THE Pearl of Africa! Go through the necessary immigration procedures and thereafter, meet and greet by our representative. Transfer to your hotel in Entebbe for overnight.
DAY 2: TRANSFER TO BWINDI NATIONAL PARK .
Morning breakfast, check out and head South West via Kampala. The journey takes you across the Uganda Equator , make a stop for an amazing photo shoots and traditional lunch stop at Igongo Cultural Center ,then continue through banana plantations and savannah grasslands with herds of Ankole cattle and their incredibly long curving horns to the southwest of the Country. Via Kabale, also known as the “”Switzerland of Africa” and characterised by terraced farming and mountain scenery, proceed with your journey to Bwindi. Note: As for gorilla tracking, the available gorilla section is what determines where clients stay.
DAY 3: GORILLA TRACKING .
An early morning breakfast and together with our packed lunch and Gorilla trekking gear, report to the UWA park headquarters at Bwindi for registration and pre-briefing before you start the trek. After briefing and in groups of 8 pax each, enter the gorilla sanctuary for your adventure!! The beauty of this rain forest is spectacular. Time allowed to spend with the Gorillas is 1 hr. A visit to these gentle and endangered giants is such an awesome, exciting and memorable experience to be long savoured! Note: The Gorilla trek may take up to 8hrs of hiking in the rugged terrain so good physical condition is a MUST!
DAY 4: DRIVE BACK TO ENTEBBE FOR DEPARTURE.
Morning breakfast and check out of the “Home base of the Mountain Gorillas”. Depart with great memories of the moments spent with the amazing Gentle Giants! Drive back to Entebbe with drop off at Entebbe International Airport for onward departure.
